An Eccentric Yet Sumptuous Food Trip

10 Jan

Everything must go. Therefore, say good-bye to 2010 and hello to 2011! A new year is upon us and another chapter in life is ready to unfold… New wonders to discover… Places to visit… Cultures and rich histories to learn… Of course, not to mention, the delicious grub to consume.

My first week of 2011 is full of wonders to my appetite. I was introduced to new eccentric yet delectable tastes. Also, the alimenting flavors I have long forgotten in a cold dessert.

First is the eccentric yet delectable taste. I know for sure some of you have tried it already. The most radical and sinful burger that I have ever tasted is what I am talking about. It is the one that has a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut as its buns. I’m talking about the Offbeat Burger.

with lunchbud, Iya Santos and her Melon Beer.

Thanks to my lunchbud, Iya Santos, I have finally encountered my first Offbeat Burger from the Offbeat Café. The Offbeat Burger is well… best to describe it as a mix of heaven and hell… the yin and the yang. And you think the KFC’s Double Down is the most sinful of them all? Well for a fact, the Double Down is dark and delicious but nothing compares to the eccentricity of the Offbeat Burger. The buns are from a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut. In between the glazed doughnut are a fried egg, a sumptuous burger beef patty, cheese, and bacon.

The taste? Feels like dying and coming back to life at the same time (I think I have exaggerated). I can’t describe it. It depends on the individual’s taste. For me, I enjoyed every bit of my Offbeat burger.  ‘Nuff said.

When I didn’t get contented with my Offbeat burger (Sorry but I got really hungry.), I tried the Uncle Joe’s Sloppy Balls. It’s a 10” sandwich with chili con meatballs. The meatballs  I guessed the best way to describe them were really meaty.

10 inches of Sloppy goodness!

And all of these happened on a Tuesday night.  And for my just desserts, after ten years (literally), I have finally come back to Little Quiapo for their superb halo-halo. The thing about Little Quiapo’s halo-halo is that it has an exquisite taste compared to any. Most especially, not only it has a luscious leche flan and ube (purple yam) ice cream scooped on top, it also has a real ube underneath the ice cream. What can I say, it is the real deal.

Little Quiapo's Special Halo-halo

So far, the grossest I have ever done with my halo-halo.

2011 is a long journey for new tastes to rediscover. I do hope you have enjoyed the latest entry. Indeed we have an epic world we live in. Since we have only one world… one Earth, we must not take it for granted. Until next time friends, seize the day!

Where did you have the Offbeat Burger and The Sloppy Balls?

I think I first saw the donut burger in a post related to Mercato Centrale but it looks like you dined in a resto. :)

I had it at The Offbeat Cafe branch located inside the Collective compound along Malugay ext. in Makati. It’s past Central Makati. They have another branch in 1406 Vito Cruz Ext. cor. Balagtas St., also in Makati.

[...] Eric, on the other hand, blogged his Offbeat experience. You can check out his veneration (lol) for the burger here. [...]
